Your home basePath through coconut palms to the sea at Icaraizinho Beach

Icaraizinho Beach

This is where it all begins: kilometers of light sand, leaning palms and a warm, shallow sea, a 5-minute walk from the pousada. Every other beach is a day trip; this one is home.

At low tide, shallow natural pools form where kids spend the whole afternoon; at high tide, the steady wind turns the shoreline into one of the best kitesurfing spots in the world.

The beach is where you will find the beach huts, seafront restaurants, kite schools and the departure point for buggy and jangada (traditional raft) trips. You can spend the whole day without a car: breakfast at the pousada, a morning on the sand, fresh fish for lunch with your feet in the water and, in the late afternoon, the most applauded sunset on the west coast.

Moitas and Barra do Aracatiaçu

Icaraizinho's neighbor, deserted and rustic, where the Aracatiaçu River meets the sea among dunes and mangroves.

Great for long walks along the shore and for watching the fishermen's rafts come in. The river mouth forms sandbanks and calm water, the setting for the boat trip through the mangrove tunnel and the stop at Ilha das Ostras (Oyster Island). Go by buggy or walk along the beach at low tide.

Caetanos Beach

Colorful cliffs, coconut palms with exposed roots and a charming fishing village. An unmissable sunset.

One of the best places in the region to watch the sun go down from a beach hut overlooking the sea. On the way you will pass Jiqui Beach, Pedra do Coração (Heart Rock) and the crystal-clear Sabiaguaba lagoons.

The same buggy routes (Moitas sunset, Caetanos and the lagoons) can be done by quad bike: you drive your own and a guide follows on a motorbike, showing you the way and the best spots.

Ideal for those who want more adrenaline and independence. Arrange the route, duration and prices directly with Bruno.

Head out with local fishermen on a traditional jangada to see the coast from another angle, swim in calm waters and, if you are lucky, spot sea turtles. An authentic, unforgettable experience.

The raft owners are on the shore of Icaraizinho Beach; ask at reception and we will tell you who is heading out.

After a day of kiting, buggy rides or simply sunshine, nothing beats a massage. Jack comes to the pousada, in your suite or on the deck, by appointment.

Walk along the shore early in the morning to watch the rafts come in and the fresh fish being unloaded. Chat with the fishermen and buy your lunch straight from the source.

Icaraizinho is a world-class spot: steady wind from August to January, flat water for beginners and waves for those who want to progress. Lessons are available in Portuguese, English and French, along with equipment rental and downwinders to Jeri.

Recommended instructors

On days with light wind (or in the morning), the sea is calm and perfect for paddling. You can also SUP at the mouth of the Aracatiaçu River, in Moitas, surrounded by mangroves.

Rent a bike in the village and ride along the shore at low tide to Moitas. An easy way to explore the area, with swimming stops along the way.

Some local schools and instructors offer yoga classes on the beach or on decks at sunrise. Ask at reception and we will put you in touch.

Our favorites, tried and approved. Several require a reservation, especially in high season: contact them directly on WhatsApp and say Flor de Lena sent you.

The beach hut we personally think is the best: more private, with good service and a wide menu of drinks and food. Feet in the sand, fresh fish and guaranteed shade.

Restaurant serving pasta, meat dishes and pizza. Note: pizzas are served in the evening only.

Authentic Italian cooking in the Neapolitan tradition. Fresh pasta and a cozy atmosphere for dinner.

Homemade ice cream, sandwiches and crêpes. Perfect for an afternoon snack or an evening stroll around the village.

Hut on the Flexeiras Lagoon, about 7 km away, serving food and drinks. Pleasant for everyone, with fresh water and a view of the coconut palms.

Restaurant open to the public, right on the seafront, for lunch or dinner.

A very romantic restaurant with a set menu that includes a starter, main course and dessert (drinks extra). Get in touch to ask for the location and the menu of the day, and book a table.

Money and payments

There is no bank branch in the village and ATMs are scarce. Bring some cash for small expenses. Most places accept Pix (Brazilian instant payment) and cards.

Internet and signal

Mobile signal works well in the village center (mainly Claro and Vivo), but it can drop at the more remote beaches. The pousada has free Wi-Fi in all areas.

Strong sun

The Ceará sun is no joke. High-SPF sunscreen, a hat and sunglasses are essential. Avoid the sun between 11 am and 2 pm and stay hydrated: coconut water does the trick.

What to pack

Light clothes, flip-flops, insect repellent, a sarong and a light top for windy evenings. If you are coming to kite, equipment can be rented in the village.

Traveling with pets

Icaraizinho is very pet friendly. The beach is long and quiet for walks, and many restaurants have outdoor seating. Bring your pet's vaccination card, leash and bed.

The water has color, and that is normal

Icaraizinho has no public water supply: guesthouses and homes use wells that draw from the groundwater beneath the coconut groves. This water is rich in iron and natural tannins and may have an amber or greenish tint in pools, tubs and showers. It is not dirt: it is natural water, filtered and treated. Learn more.

Pharmacy and health

There is a pharmacy and a health clinic in the village for minor emergencies. For more serious cases, the nearest hospital is in Amontada (25 km) or Itapipoca.

When to go

Sunny all year round, only the wind changes

Icaraizinho has more than 300 days of sunshine a year and temperatures between 26°C and 32°C (79°F to 90°F) in any month. The big difference between seasons is the wind, which shapes the experience:

  • August to January, wind season: ideal for kitesurfing, dry days and cloudless skies. High season.
  • February to May, green season: short showers, calmer sea, lush vegetation and fewer people. Great prices.
  • June and July, transition: the wind starts to arrive, pleasant weather and good value for money.

Moon & tide

The Icaraizinho sea follows the moon

Around the full and new moons the tides are bigger: low tide retreats hundreds of meters, revealing natural pools and opening a strip of sand all the way to Moitas. Around the quarter moons, the sea is steadier all day long.

Low tideNatural pools, walks on firm sand, cycling to Moitas and the best time for kids.
High tideDeeper water along the shore and kitesurfers' favorite conditions. Great for swimming in the sea.
Full moonBright nights on the beach, luaus and the moon reflected on the sea. Big tides in the surrounding days.
Quarter moonsGentle, predictable tides: good for kite beginners, SUP and swimming at any time.

Moon phases are calculated astronomically; tide range is illustrative. For exact tide times, see the Brazilian Navy Tide Tables (reference port: Camocim or Fortaleza).

Frequently asked questions

Common questions about the destination

Do I need a car in Icaraizinho?

Not necessarily. The village is small and the beach is a 5-minute walk from the pousada. For longer trips, buggies, quad bikes, transfers and motorbike taxis do the job. A car gives you more freedom, but it is not essential.

Is Icaraizinho good for children?

Yes! The sea is shallow and warm, without strong currents, and the village is quiet and safe. The low-tide natural pools and the freshwater lagoons are a hit with little ones.

What is the nightlife like?

Laid-back. There are bars with live music on some days, charming restaurants and beach luaus in high season. Do not expect nightclubs: the vibe is good conversation under a starry sky.

Is it safe?

Icaraizinho is a small, welcoming village where everyone knows each other. As in any destination, use common sense with your belongings on the beach and avoid dark, isolated areas at night.
